Karate | Family with three generations of black belts

Granddaughter Neve Ewing joins her Father, Christopher and Grandfather David as a Karate black belt

Karate is clearly a family passion, with Neve's yopunger sister also starting on the Karate ladder.

Dad Chris started his Karate at the tender age of 6, and was soon followed by his Dad, David, who felt that he just couldn't sit and watch, so grabbed a Gi and joined in.

By the time he turned 14, Chris had gained his 1st Dan black belt, and went on to win Scottish, British, European and Commonwealth championships.

And he recently passed the technical assessment for his fourth Dan.

Chris said: "I don't know any other families with three generations of black belts, and I know quite a few people in the karate world."

The sport is now the family business and professional instructor Chris runs nine clubs across the Lothians and Borders from his home in Tranent, East Lothian.

David's and Chris's wives are also involved and grapple daily with all the business memberships and paperwork.
